Questions we hear

Before you book.

How long does a furnace last?

Typically 15 to 20 years, and often at the long end in Southern California because it runs far fewer hours than a furnace in a cold climate. Age alone isn't the reason to replace one. Cracks, repeated repairs and rising gas use are.

What are the signs my furnace needs attention?

Short cycling, rooms that never reach temperature, unusual noises, a yellow burner flame instead of blue, or a burning smell that doesn't clear. If your carbon monoxide alarm sounds, leave the house and call 911 or your gas company first.

How often should a furnace be serviced?

Once a year, ideally in the fall before you need it. A service should cover the burners, heat exchanger, safety controls, filter and airflow, so small problems get caught before the first cold night.

Should I replace my furnace with a heat pump?

It depends on your gas and electric rates, your ductwork and whether your AC is also due. We compare both in furnace vs heat pump in Southern California. When the AC and furnace are both aging, one heat pump replacing the two is often worth pricing.
